I’ve never been a huge fan of Johnny Depp, but I’ve always liked and respected him.  So it was a surprise to me to find out that he’s  thrown his support behind Roman Polanski. You know Polanski, right? He’s  the famous director who more than thirty years ago fled the United States because he was accused of drugging and then raping a 13-year old girl. They caught up with him in Switzerland in ‘09 and he perhaps will be sent back to the States for trial.

Apparently, Depp has signed a list in support of Polanski. I’m assuming the goal of the petition/list is to keep Polanski from going to trial. Of course I hope it’s a resounding failure.

I am hugely disappointed in Mr. Depp. Not that that should matter to him, or anyone else. I’m disappointed in myself as well b/c I’ve fallen into that trap of believing I somehow know a celebrity simply because I can read about his exploits and see him on the big screen.

Okay, so just found out that I’ve acquired a new public relations gig. I’m so excited about it, I can barely keep still! I love PR, and love a challenge, and this new gig I have will offer me plenty of that.

Additionally, it will only be for a few hours a week, so I can still devote some time to my writing.

I have to say it: I’m having a great week!

What you see before you is the beautiful new cover for Given, a book written by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb and I. Isn’t she gor-ge-ous?! Because we’d written a book about two A-A people (and one of them has the power to shift into any animal)  set in the 1850s, we had no idea what the artist would come up with.

But all of our expectations were surpassed and we are absolutely  thrilled with the results! Thanks to cover artist Cris Griffin for doing such a stellar job!

The book comes out on February 9th from www.loose-id.com!

Best,

Lisa

Here is my new cover for Do Me Right, which comes out from www.loose-id.com on March 23rd!  I love the way the text makes the whole thing pop.  Thanks to cover artist Marci Gass for a wonderful job!

Any opinions?

Best,

Lisa G.

Okay, so the title of this post is more than a bit dramatic. However, it does express how I felt the other day when a reader contacted me to let me know that one of my stories had been plagiarized. So, I guess that makes me more than a bit dramatic, right? I’m fine with that.

The story in question, Double Ten, was posted almost word for word on a website called fanfiction.com. The thief, one Sha-Ron (also known as Shay) of Augusta, GA, while changing the names of the characters to those of Manga characters and acknowleding that they were not her characters; did blatantly claim to have written the story!  She even had the gall to ask people to post and let her know what they thought of it! And, oh yes, she kept my title as well.

For those who aren’t familiar with Double Ten, it’s a story that was published in Zane’s Honey Flava anthology in ‘08. I worked really hard on that story, as I do every story I write. This one was a particular challenge, however, because I had to learn about Chinese culture, something I was woefully ignorant of at the time.

Anyway, I’ve contacted the website, and I want to thank Ms. Asia Potts for letting me know about the theft. Thank you, Asia, for your awareness and for contacting me.

As for the thief, I have not been able to track her down, so for now I will work with the website that let her so shamelessly post her theft.

Lisa

Happy new year! I hope everyone has a productive and prosperous year. Mine has already gotten off to a good start. I’m spending time with family and I’m writing.

On another note, take a look at these two sites: http://saveblackromance.com/ and http://ravenreader.wordpress.com/. They’re great sites. Thanks to Roslyn Hardy Holcomb for sharing!

Lisa

Hola, people! I’ve got some fantastic news! Roslyn Hardy Holcomb and I will be publishing a book together. It’s called Given, it’s set i 1850 and it will be coming out in February ‘10 from www.loose-id.com. We’re both excited about it!

Go Roslyn! Go Lisa!

I recently found out that my latest book, Do Me Right, will not be released until March instead of the planned January date. There’s been a back-up on the editor’s desk.

Dude! I am so seriously bumming!

Happy Thanksgiving! Today I’m off to Texas to celebrate this, my favorite holiday (it’s tied with Christmas), with my family. The flight is going to take roughly three hours and is in the middle of the afternoon, so I know I’m going to be hungry.

I’m a pretty good flyer: spend most of the flight using books and music to try to forget that I’m up in the air and that my fate, to some extent, depends on a person who is as  human (therefore as fallible) as I, piloting the plane.  So basically, I pray silently and keep my fears to myself.

Anyway,  given that the airlines have either stopped serving food, serve very little food or charge for food, I’m left with trying to figure out not if I should bring a snack, (that’s a foregone conclusion as I refuse to be nervous and hungry), but what I should bring.

I used to bring quiet foods like donuts, candy bars, moon pies–all yummy and unassuming, therefore allowing me to be sneaky and avoid stares while I eat.  However, they’re also unhealthy, and as I’m finally into living a healthy lifestyle (sigh), I can’t bring that stuff anymore.

I’m planning on bringing an apple, some multi-grain crackers and water, thus making it completely impossible for me to go unnoticed. I should be clear that I’m still going to do it, but I’m just wondering, would most people find this rude? Is it rude to bring food on a plane? Isn’t there an unspoken rule that you’re not supposed to?

Is it rude, or am I just neurotic? Does anyone else think about stuff like this?

Lisa
